Description

‘Look to the sky’ is an original painting by British artist Sian Storey depicting a flock of stunning swallows, flying high in the sky against beautiful Mediterranean inspired flora. It's an extraordinary thing of beauty.

It's painted on canvas, sized at 76 x 76cm and subtly framed in contemporary white wood. The framed size is 79 x 79cm with a depth of 4.5cm.

Sian used acrylic and spray paint to create this serene painting. The soothing colours of seafoam and turquoise provide a serene background for the vibrant blossom and the birds, which seem entwined with the cascading flowers in the canvas. The gold spray paint catches the light with an amazing glistening effect.

The painting is signed by the artist Sian Storey on the front and reverse, and will be an exciting addition to your home.

Feel inspired

Sian is continually inspired by the delicate beauty of birds and in this painting Sian has captured a swoop of beautiful swallows.

Swallows are often seen as symbols of love, loyalty, hope, and new beginnings. They often fly great distances, choose  a mate for life and return to the same nesting spot, year after year.

Sian first saw swallows in Greece and was drawn to how elegantly they flew through the sparkling blue skies. A true beauty, these special birds are associated with the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. They of course are also said to be good luck to sailors at sea, guiding ships safely back to land.

On this painting, she's surrounded them with Bougainvillea-like blossoms, said to represent happiness and love in greek mythology. It's also a spiritual painting, the circular composition representing the cycle of life, renewal and new beginnings. 

The title ’Look to the Sky’ alludes to the freshness and hope of those new beginnings! 

How it was created

‘Look to the Sky' was painted in the warm spring of 2025, in Sian Storey’s studio in Hampshire, England.

As the one-and-only owner of this original work of art, you’ll be able to appreciate the delicate, detailed brushwork and hazy mists of spray paint. Look closely, and you'll see painterly textures and brushstrokes - something photos just can't do justice.

Sian paints in layers, building up layers of paint as she goes. The spray paint is used to diffuse edges and lines, creating an ethereal finish.
