‘Osaka Sunrise’ is a beautiful original hummingbird painting by British artist Sian Storey, and part of an ongoing series of paintings inspired by the beauty of Japan.

A square canvas sized at 60 x 60 and 5cm depth, Sian used acrylic and spray paint to create this vibrant and beautiful painting. The vivacious pink and warm yellows create an iridescent and ornate backdrop to the hummingbirds in flight.

There are flashes of gold spray paint that catch the light with a shimmering effect.

Look closely and you’ll also see origami paper from Japan pasted onto the painting as well as hand crafted blossom designs.

The painting is signed by the artist Sian Storey on the front and reverse, and will be a stunning addition to your art collection.

Feel inspired

Japan’s aesthetics are a constant source of inspiration for Sian. The title ‘Osaka Sunrise' refers to the beautiful pink sky of a Japanese sunrise. The layers of spray paint and paper are reminiscent of an ethereal sky scattered with blossoms and clouds. This painting is a celebration of the beauty of nature.

Sian is also inspired by the beauty and movement of hummingbirds.

How it was created

‘Osaka Sunrise' was painted in Sian Storey’s studio in leafy Hampshire during summer 2018. Sian paints in layers, giving the painting a sense of depth.  Using acrylics and spray paint, you'll see detailed, delicate brushwork and beautiful mists of spray paint. You’ll also see Japanese origami paper pasted onto the painting.
