‘Gracious’ is an original painting by British artist Sian Storey and belongs to a series of paintings that explore the opulence, colour and texture of the peacock.
A beautiful and decadent painting featuring a stunning golden backdrop that is ever-changing as the light dances on the exuberant surface. Feel inspired
Sian is continually inspired by the sheer beauty of nature and in particular birds. She was drawn to the peacock because of their recognisable markings and opulent colour. She also felt inspired by their symbolism of vision and awakening, and in this painting, she's surrounded the bird with beautiful spring-like blossoms. Here Sian has used a teal circle design to represent harmony and eternity.
The title ‘Gracious’ alludes to the beautiful qualities and movement of the bird. But also it’s a nod towards the importance of compassion and forgiveness.
How it was created
‘Gracious’ was painted in Sian Storey’s studio in Hampshire, England. Using acrylics and spray paint, you'll see detailed, delicate brushwork, patterns, finished off with flashes of teal and pink spray paint.
Sian paints in layers, as seen in the crisp golden background, teal circle design and rich acrylic paint of the peacock and blossoms. The spray paint is used to diffuse edges and lines, creating a hazy, ethereal finish.
